Petersen Questions $46,000+ in Payments to Out-of-State Consultants in Nebraska Secretary of State Race

Friends,
I want to share something with you that deserves a closer look.
Recent campaign finance reports show that my opponent’s campaign has paid more than $46,000 since January to a Maryland-based consulting firm, OnMessage Public Strategies, headquartered in Annapolis.

Let me be clear: This race should be decided by Nebraskans. Not by consultants from Washington, D.C.Not by political operatives from out of state.
Here’s why this matters.
This firm specializes in helping organizations navigate “reputational challenges” and “intense public pressure.” It operates at the intersection of politics, corporate advocacy, and messaging strategy.
It has also been connected to work involving national election-vendor advocacy groups, organizations created to represent companies such as ES&S, Dominion, and Hart InterCivic.
At a time when Nebraskans are asking for more transparency and accountability in our elections, it raises a simple question:
Why bring in outside firms connected to national networks that exist to manage that very pressure?
And more importantly:
Why are tens of thousands of campaign dollars flowing out of Nebraska?
What role are national firms playing in shaping this race?
And how does that influence the conversation around election transparency here at home?
These are fair questions. And you deserve clear answers.
My approach is different. We’re not outsourcing our message. We’re building it right here in Nebraska by listening to you, showing up in communities, and focusing on the issues that matter most.
This office belongs to the people of Nebraska.
And the conversation about our elections should be driven by Nebraskans, not shaped by outside consultants or national interests.
If you agree, I’d ask you to stand with us.
👉 Share this message with friends and family
👉 Stay engaged and help us spread the word
👉 And if you’re able, consider supporting our campaign as we finish strong
We’re building something real here, and we’re doing it the right way.
For Nebraska,
Scott Petersen
Candidate for Nebraska Secretary of State
🗳️ Vote May 12
P.S. If you see the attacks start rolling out, remember: they wouldn’t be doing it if this campaign wasn’t working.
