10 Concerns Nebraskans Should Ask About Our Election System

Friends,
Nebraska voters are being asked to trust a system that even our own Secretary of State has admitted is not fully verified, not inspected, and not held to modern standards.
That should concern every one of us.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about whether we can have confidence in the systems that determine our elections.
Here’s what we’re seeing:
1️⃣ Refusal to Engage Independent Experts We’re told the system is secure, but when credible experts step forward, they’re not given the opportunity to present evidence.
👉 If everything is secure, why not allow an independent review?
2️⃣ Blocking or Limiting Expert Testimony
Experts who have tested voting systems and identified vulnerabilities have faced barriers in legislative settings. That limits transparency and prevents real oversight. Just ask Cause of America or cybersecurity expert Clay Parikh for comment.
3️⃣ Reliance on Outdated Standards Nebraska still relies on federal standards developed nearly 20 years ago (VVSG 1.0 was implemented pre-2005) and retired on November 16, 2023. Cyber threats evolve daily, and our safeguards should too.
👉 Compliance does not equal security.

4️⃣ Certification vs. Reality Gap “Certified and secure” sounds reassuring, but certification is just a baseline. It does NOT account for:
Lack of independent inspection
Limited transparency
Restricted real-world testing
👉 Certification alone is not proof of integrity. Currently, no election system in Nebraska is “certified” per EAC.gov, and as of June 2025, none had been submitted for “certification.”

5️⃣ Executive Order 14248 Raises New Questions
President Trump’s order emphasizes stronger election safeguards. Yet serious questions remain about whether Nebraska’s current systems meet those expectations. 180 Days from March 31, 2025, was September 21, 2025. As noted above, as of June, no ES&S system was/is “certified”. Which, as of now, means that by law, we should be hand-counting ballots on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

6️⃣ Misleading “Made in America” Claims
We’re told machines are made in the USA. In reality, key components and subcomponents come from global supply chains, including foreign sources, including our adversary, China.
👉 Assembly is not the same as full control.

7️⃣ Refusal to Inspect Equipment
The Secretary of State has stated that machines are not internally inspected and sees no reason to do so. Even when given the opportunity to review equipment with lawmakers, that opportunity was declined.
👉 Trust is being substituted for verification.

8️⃣ Contradictions on Connectivity
We’re told machines aren’t connected to the internet. But election results are still transferred through internet-connected systems. Even more alarming… NBC Special Investigative Report found election systems ONLINE. Nebraska was one of the states. Furthermore, why is our election data being routed and/or stored on foreign servers?
👉 That chain deserves scrutiny.
9️⃣ Dismissal of Public Concerns
Officials say “no one has come forward.” But individuals have… and several respected national subject-matter experts among them say they were ignored. That’s not transparency, that’s dismissal. The data scientist who offered a briefing and acknowledged in writing later testified sitting right in front of Bob that HE HAD THE STATE’S USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS. Bob conveniently “forgot” and lied in the legislative hearing.

🔟 Trust in Systems Over Citizens The message we keep hearing is simple: Trust the system. Trust the vendors. Trust the process. But Nebraskans are asking a very reasonable question:
Why not trust the people enough to verify everything openly?
The Bottom Line
This is about standards. This is about transparency. This is about accountability.
Nebraska deserves:
Modern security standards
Independent verification
Full transparency
Leadership that welcomes scrutiny, not avoids it
Election integrity isn’t proven by assurances. It’s proven by transparency. If you agree, share this message with your friends and family. Nebraska’s future depends on it.
For Nebraska,
Scott Petersen Candidate for Nebraska Secretary of State
🗳️ Vote May 12
P.S. The more people who understand what’s really happening, the harder it becomes to ignore. Forward this to someone who deserves to know the truth.
