Governor Jim Pillen Endorses Scott Petersen for Nebraska Secretary of State

OMAHA, Neb. — Scott Petersen, Republican nominee for Nebraska Secretary of State, today announced Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen's endorsement, praising Petersen’s business background, commitment to election integrity, and potential to work closely with the governor’s administration on economic development and state priorities.

“Today, I am proud to endorse Scott Petersen for Nebraska Secretary of State. Nebraska has tremendous momentum, and Scott will be a strong partner in expanding opportunities for our people, businesses, producers, and communities,” Pillen said.

Pillen said the Secretary of State’s office has an important role to play both in Nebraska’s business environment and in the administration of secure elections.

“The Secretary of State has a wide range of responsibilities. Our teams will work hand-in-hand to promote business in Nebraska, while also ensuring our elections are secure. Election integrity matters – and we’ve seen just how badly broken Nebraska’s ballot petition process is. I believe we must fix it – and I look forward to working with Scott to address the issue.”

Pillen has recently made both economic development and ballot-petition reform prominent issues. His administration led a trade mission to Japan and the Philippines this summer focused on expanding markets for Nebraska beef, pork, wheat, ethanol and energy. In August, Pillen also called for changes to Nebraska’s paid signature-gathering system following arrests connected to alleged petition fraud.

Pillen said Petersen’s private-sector background would also serve him well in an office that is often a first point of contact for companies doing business in Nebraska.

“The Secretary of State’s office is also often one of the first points of contact for businesses looking to organize, invest, or expand in Nebraska. As a businessman, Scott knows how critical it is to make government more efficient while improving the taxpayer experience, and he knows that government should help create the conditions for people to succeed, then get the heck out of the way.”

Pillen also urged Nebraskans to remain engaged as the Nov. 3 general election approaches.

“November 3rd is less than 50 days away. The time is now for conservative and commonsense Nebraskans to unify around our candidates — and turn out to vote.”

He concluded:

“I believe Scott will be a strong partner in this work, and I am proud to endorse him as Nebraska’s next Secretary of State.”

Petersen thanked Pillen for the endorsement and said he welcomed the opportunity to work closely with the governor on business development, election administration and other statewide priorities.

“Governor Pillen has been an aggressive advocate for Nebraska agriculture, our businesses and our communities, and I am grateful for his confidence in me,”

Petersen said. “The Secretary of State should be a constructive partner in making Nebraska easier to do business with while also carrying out its election responsibilities with transparency, security and accountability.”

Petersen said he would work with the governor and other state leaders to improve customer service for Nebraska businesses, strengthen election administration and ensure the Secretary of State’s office supports Nebraska’s broader growth agenda.
