Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers Endorses Scott Petersen for Secretary of State

OMAHA, Neb. — Scott Petersen, Republican nominee for Nebraska Secretary of State, today announced the endorsement from Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers.

Hilgers said Petersen understands the seriousness of the office and the importance of carrying out its responsibilities with integrity, transparency and respect for the law.

“I am proud to endorse Scott Petersen for Nebraska Secretary of State,” Hilgers said.

“The Secretary of State holds one of the most important positions of public trust in Nebraska. The office is responsible not only for administering our elections, but for carrying out the law faithfully, protecting the integrity of our public records and ensuring that citizens and businesses can have confidence in state government.”

Hilgers said Petersen has demonstrated a serious commitment to those responsibilities.

“Scott understands that responsibility,” Hilgers said. “He has approached this race with a serious commitment to the rule of law, election integrity, transparency and accountability.”

“He recognizes that confidence in our elections is strengthened when the law is clear, the process is secure, and citizens can see that the system is being administered fairly and consistently.”

Hilgers also pointed to the broader responsibilities of the Secretary of State’s office, including its important role in serving Nebraska businesses and working with local officials across the state.

“Scott understands that good government requires competent administration,” Hilgers said. “The Secretary of State’s office should be responsive to Nebraska businesses, respectful of local officials and focused on serving the people of our state efficiently and professionally.”

Hilgers concluded:

Petersen thanked Hilgers for the endorsement and praised his leadership as Nebraska’s chief legal officer.

“Attorney General Hilgers has been a strong and thoughtful leader for Nebraska, and I am deeply grateful for his confidence and support,” Petersen said.

“Mike understands better than most that public trust depends on government following the law, carrying out its responsibilities competently and remaining accountable to the people it serves.”

Petersen said Hilgers’ endorsement is especially meaningful because of the relationship between the offices of Attorney General and Secretary of State and their shared responsibility to uphold Nebraska law and protect public confidence.

“The Attorney General and Secretary of State have distinct responsibilities, but both offices are entrusted with upholding the law and serving the people of Nebraska,” Petersen said. “I look forward to working constructively with Attorney General Hilgers and leaders across state government to ensure Nebraska remains a place where the law is respected, elections are secure and transparent, and citizens and businesses receive the service they deserve.”
